I recently participated in a Service Learning Project for one of my course modules, and overall it was a great experience. We were partnered with Knowledge Channel, and were supposed to form teams to work on an educative animation for the children in Philipines. I was in charge of the environment design in my team.

I had to do a lot of research into the general floorplan of Filipino Kampung houses, as well as deciding on furniture placements, party decorations and etc. It was an eye opener, since it was my first time interacting with a client, as well as getting feedback to further tweak the project when it was undergoing. It was interesting interacting with my teammates as well, since we now had definitive roles to do, and had to properly coordinate and set deadlines so that the project ran smootly. It was nice seeing the progress of the project, and how it came from a sketch to a finalized thing.

The people over at Knowledge Channel were also very friendly and cooperative, making it very motivating, and overall it created a positive attitude towards the project. They provided feedback to guide our progress, but not too much as to restrict our creativity and art styles. Furthermore, the fact that the animation was for the children in Philippines who have little access to an education, made this cause much more meaningful. In a nutshell, it was a pleasure working with them, and this Service Learning Project was a great experience.
